Frequently asked questions about training:

What is the duration of the Basic Counselling and Advanced Counselling Courses? 

  • The Basic Counselling Course lasts for a duration of 15 sessions, with three hours per session, whereas the Advanced Counselling Course lasts for 12 sessions with 3 hours per session. There is one three-hour session every week.

How many volunteer hours do I have to complete once the course is complete?

  • 30 hours.

Are Saturday classes offered?

  • Yes, depending if there is a request for a Saturday class and that there are enough people in the group.

Who can I contact if I am interested in doing these courses?

Once I am a counsellor will I be paid for my services or is it all voluntary?

  • It is a voluntary service to the community and you do not get paid.

Do you accept volunteers at the organisation?

  • Yes. Volunteers can assist other staff members with admin work or with awareness raising initiatives and training. If the volunteers have completed the Basic and Advanced courses, they may assist with counselling of abused women and children, while under supervision.

If I want to become a volunteer what procedure do I follow?

  • In order to become a volunteer, one needs to make an appointment with the training co-ordinator who will then screen the person.

Do you need volunteers on Saturdays?

  • Yes, sometimes the organisation does participate in activities over weekends and this is when volunteers are needed to assist on weekends or after hours.

Can I only offer my volunteer services in Lenasia? 

  • No, there are two other offices: one in Soweto and one in Orange Farm. If you feel more comfortable doing volunteer work at the other offices, it is welcomed.
